Spending the Fourth abroad

Weird.

For lunch we were at a local pub and the server with from England. He wished us a "Happy Independence Day!"

Later that day, the University held a barbecue for us on campus with free food and drink vouchers.

The whole time I was perplexed by the idea that we celebrate 4th of July big - as it should be!

Ireland only gained their independence not even 100 years ago!!

21 January 1919 - 11 July 1921 :: was the Irish War of Independence. They also fought the British in order to gain their independence as a free country!

After living in Ireland as short as I have I can confidently say any chance to celebrate is celebrated BIG - especially those when the English loose.

** Fun little tid-bit of info: Budweiser was a big seller that night as everyone chanted U-S-A no matter their country!

(( off to Dingle! time to taste the Dingle! ))
